It's Okay To Not Be Okay
Here’s how I got through July:
🎧 On Repeat
I keep playing “Heavy” by Kiara and Linkin Park on repeat, which is probably indicative of my mood and mindset. Such a painful yet beautiful vulnerable song about people who are suffering publicly but continuing to try to fight on despite the heaviness that we carry.
📺 On My Screen
I’ve been in major rewatch mode of both Shrinking and Ted Lasso, especially in anticipation of season four of Ted Lasso coming out this Summer. I cannot freaking wait and it is such a comfort show for me. Shrinking is so beautifully written and created. The acting is phenomenal. As a mental health therapist I laugh at so many of the scenes of things that a lot of us want to do and the connection and community and sense of belonging is just outstanding.
🍔 On My Plate
While in Ireland, despite the fact that it was 95° every day and miserably hot, I probably ate no less than 15 different soups. Soup is one of my favorite comfort foods and Ireland really nails it in terms of soup that you can just get at a pub with a hunk of brown Irish soda bread next to it. Absolutely delicious.
🌀 How did you cope with being away from home for so much of the month?
Being in Ireland for almost all of July, it was a beautiful reminder of how hard it is for me to transition into new environments, new accommodations, new places to stay,
and to get comfortable in my surroundings. While I’m traveling I often yearn for home and the familiarity of my bed, my couch, my dog, my wife, etc., but also enjoy the fact that I had so much new stimulation all around me.
